This half term has been packed with exciting activities, and our pupils have demonstrated incredible respect, independence, and ambition while fully embracing our school values. It has been a delight to see their enthusiasm for learning and the energy they bring to everything they do.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone for making this term so special. Your support has made my first term as Headteacher at Kniveton Church of England Primary School truly memorable.

Honouring Remembrance Day

On Remembrance Day, pupils took part in a special worship to reflect on the sacrifices made by soldiers who gave their lives for our country. The service included listening to beautiful music symbolising remembrance and observing a two-minute silence.

The respect shown by all the children during the silence was extraordinary, and it was a deeply meaningful part of the day for everyone involved.

Sensory Room – A Calming Space

Our new sensory room has quickly become a favourite among pupils, offering a peaceful and reflective environment. Featuring sensory lighting, tactile sponges, textured balls, a bubble tube, projector lights, and fibre optic wiring, the room provides a calming space for pupils to relax and recharge.

This incredible transformation was made possible by a generous £1,000 donation from St Oswald’s Freemasons, alongside school funds. We are extremely grateful for their support, which has allowed us to create such a wonderful space for our pupils.

Supporting Attendance

At Kniveton, we continue to prioritise good attendance, working closely with families and the local authority to ensure pupils don’t miss important lessons and sessions. Regular attendance is vital for academic success, and we ask families to support this by scheduling appointments outside school hours wherever possible.

In the Autumn term our attendance was 94.96%

Let’s work together to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive!

Secret Santa Brings Festive Fun

On Monday 9th December, Class 3 pupils hosted our Secret Santa morning with great enthusiasm. Acting as stallholders and personal shoppers, they helped their peers select and wrap gifts for loved ones to place under their Christmas trees at home.

The event was made possible thanks to the fantastic donations from families, and it gave pupils a wonderful opportunity to practise independence and experience the joy of giving. We hope you enjoy opening your surprises!

Pyjamas for Pudsey

This year, our Children in Need celebrations saw pupils coming to school in their pyjamas and taking part in a range of activities inspired by Pudsey Bear. The day ended with a cosy treat of hot chocolate and biscuits in the Village Hall.

As a school, we raised £51.70 for this fantastic cause. A big thank you to everyone who contributed—great work, Team Kniveton!

Snow Days at Kniveton

The wonderful British weather brought plenty of snow this half term, and our pupils made the most of it with teamwork and creativity. From building snow forts and snowmen to making snow angels, the children had great fun while living out our school values.

Even with the snowy conditions, our pupils demonstrated resilience and cooperation, turning the weather into a learning opportunity and a source of joy.

Simply Nativity – A Festive Highlight

The long-awaited performances of Simply Nativity took place on Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th December, and they were simply fantastic!

Class 1 pupils worked incredibly hard to learn their songs and lines, creating a truly magical event. Many thanks to parents and carers for providing costumes and helping with line rehearsals. A huge well done to the pupils for their efforts, and special thanks to Mrs Raine, Mrs Tickhill, and Mrs Resul for their dedication and hard work in bringing this production to life.

A Magical Pantomime Trip

On Wednesday 11th December, the whole school enjoyed a trip to Buxton Opera House to see Jack and the Beanstalk. This memorable experience was made possible by the generosity of the Friends of Kniveton, who funded the entire trip, including interval ice creams.

The pupils were a credit to the school, showing respect and independence throughout the day. A huge thank you to the Friends of Kniveton for creating such a wonderful opportunity for the children to make lasting memories.

Basketball Success at QEGS

Class 3 pupils had the opportunity to take part in a basketball tournament at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School on Tuesday 10th December. As part of our sports partnership with QEGS, the tournament was a chance for pupils to practise their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

We are so proud of their effort and respect for their team members and the opposition. Well done, Class 3!

Carol Singing for Charity

On Thursday 14th December, Class 3 pupils went carol singing outside Marks & Spencer and at Ashbourne Lodge Care Home. Their wonderful performances helped raise an impressive £443, which was donated to Cancer Research, Ashbourne Food Bank, and Alzheimer’s UK.

Thank you to everyone who supported their efforts and contributed to these important causes. Well done, Class 3, for spreading festive cheer while making a difference!

Positive SIAMS Inspection

On Tuesday 3rd December, Kniveton Church of England Primary School was visited by a representative from the Church of England for our SIAMS inspection, which assesses the school’s ethos and contribution as a Church of England school.

The inspector met with staff, pupils, and parents and provided positive feedback on the day. While the final report will be shared in the new year, we are pleased with the outcome so far and would like to thank everyone who contributed to the visit.
